The Satyr Ring by Macabre Gadgets is a heavy sculptural signet ring in solid sterling silver — a wearable portrait of the satyr (faun in Roman mythology), companion of Dionysus and god of the wild.
At the centre of the ring: a face. Strong nose, full lips, high cheekbones, goat ears, sharp horns. He wears a crown of oak leaves — the tree sacred to the forest, to Pan, to everything that grows outside the city walls. His stare is direct and intense. He is strikingly handsome and unmistakably feral — not monstrous, but tempting.
The band is smooth and sleek, a deliberate contrast to the elaborately detailed face. The surface of both the ring and the face is polished to a high finish — satisfying to the touch. A ring you keep reaching for.
In Greek mythology, satyrs were the companions of Dionysus — half man, half goat, always on the edge of civilisation. In Roman mythology, the same figure becomes the Faun: wilder, more chthonic, tied to the forest and to instinct rather than to Olympus. Behind both stands Pan — the horned god of the wild, of shepherds and untamed nature, whose name gave us the word panic. This ring holds all three. The oak wreath places him in the forest; the signet form places him on your hand.
