The Fascinus earring by Macabre Gadgets is a handcrafted sculptural earring in sterling silver and glass pearls, inspired by one of the most potent symbols of the ancient world — the fascinum, the divine winged phallus of Ancient Rome.

The fascinum — the divine winged phallus — was among the most widely used apotropaic symbols in Ancient Rome and Greece: worn by soldiers before battle, hung above doorways to ward off the evil eye, placed around the necks of children as protective talismans, and sacred to the god Fascinus himself. It was not considered obscene in antiquity — it was considered divine. It appeared on military standards, on the walls of Pompeii, on amulets worn by Roman generals and emperors.

This earring renders that symbol in hand-carved bonded marble, set in sterling silver and finished with glass pearls. Available in white and black marble — each giving the same form a distinct character and weight. The contrast between stone, metal, and pearl gives the piece a layered sculptural presence.
