The Silver Lion ring by Macabre Gadgets is a handcrafted sculptural sterling silver ring — a lion head holding a large decorative ring in its mouth, cast in oxidised sterling silver or 24K gold-plated sterling silver.

Designed with a strong, sculptural presence, the ring naturally aligns with the tradition of men’s silver lion rings while remaining fully unisex in wear.

The lion holding a ring is one of the most recognisable motifs in Roman decorative art. It appears on door knockers, furniture fittings, military harness decorations, and architectural ornament across the Roman world — the lion as guardian, the ring as the point of contact between the human hand and the protected space. To hold the ring is to acknowledge the lion’s authority. The motif is not merely decorative: it is a statement of threshold and power.

The lion’s authority in classical art begins with Hercules. The Nemean Lion — an invulnerable beast that terrorised the region of Nemea — was the first of his twelve labours. Hercules killed it with his bare hands and wore its pelt as armour for the rest of his life. From that moment, the lion became the symbol of proven, controlled force — power that has already overcome its opposite.

The ring captures that motif at finger scale — the lion’s head sculpted in full relief, the decorative ring held in its jaws, every detail hand-finished in oxidised sterling silver. The oxidised finish gives the metal an aged, antiqued quality — as if the piece has been unearthed rather than newly made. The gold-plated variant shifts the register: warmer, more imperial, closer to the gilded metalwork of Roman triumphal decoration.

Smaller in scale than the Marble Lion ring, the Silver Lion ring is more refined in its proportions — the lion head precise and contained, the ring in its mouth the defining detail.

Each ring is individually handcrafted. Natural variations in the finishing mean no two pieces are identical.
